Veterinary Nurse Month: Meet Michelle Richmond our Field Technical Support Nurse

This Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month, we’re proud to shine a light on a key part of our Vet Direct Technical Team – our Field-Based Technical Support RVNs.

At Vet Direct, we’re incredibly lucky to have a team of passionate, experienced and inspiring veterinary nurses who go above and beyond every day to help support and advise our community of veterinary practices. That is why we are thrilled to introduce you to, Michelle Richmond: DipAVN (Medical), DipAVN (Surgical), CertVN ECC, RVN.

Michelle, is one of our Field Technical Support Nurses covering the south region of the UK and is an RVN extraordinaire. With over 30 years of veterinary nursing experience, Michelle, brings a wealth of knowledge, compassion and guidance to every practice she visits. Her journey has taken her across the UK and the USA working in both first opinion and referral practices, and has served as a Clinical Director of a Veterinary Hospital.

“A career in Veterinary Nursing is like a book — lots of chapters with exciting new beginnings. You just have to turn the page and don’t look back! Six months into the role and I haven’t looked back!”

A career of Firsts and Forward Thinking

Michelle’s career is marked by a passion for education and clinical excellence. She has:

  • Lectured at the Lynwood School of Veterinary Nursing
  • Launched the first unique in-house CPD company for veterinary nurses in 2011
  • Published articles and book chapters on best practices in equipment use and maintenance

Her mission? To support clinical improvements, highlight time-saving and sustainable solutions, and to guide practices in future planning – especially when it comes to equipment purchases.

Life on the Road: Supporting Practices across the South

Since joining Vet Direct in October 2024, Michelle has embraced her role as a Field-Based Technical Support RVN with enthusiasm and heart. She loves visiting practices, meeting veterinary teams, and even getting to know some of the patients.

“Why? I love a challenge, a new beginning — just a side step to help others help their patients. I LOVE coming into practices, the friendly feeling of joining another ‘veterinary family’ for a period of time, connecting with fellow professionals! It’s incredibly rewarding to support them in making informed, sustainable choices that enhance patient care”

Michelle has also gained a new appreciation for the inner workings of Vet Direct, and has become and integral part of the team and has enjoyed sharing her journey at Vet Direct with the Nurses and Practice Teams she meets daily.

“The team at Vet Direct is small but perfectly formed. The biggest eye-opener? The proficiency of the warehouse — you have to see it to believe it!”

Beyond Practice and Vet Direct work: Champion in the ring

When she’s not on the road, Michelle is still on the move — this time with her beloved Border Collies, Moss and Storm. She travels across the UK competing in competitive obedience, and in 2024, a lifelong dream came true when Storm earned his Obedience Champion title!

Thank You, Michelle

Michelle, your dedication, expertise, and passion for veterinary nursing inspire us all. This VNAM, we celebrate you and all the incredible veterinary nurses who make a difference every single day.
