Multi-Parameter Magic

As an RVN of 11 years, I have always been happy with a stethoscope and an anaesthetic chart. I always felt I could rely on my own knowledge and experience and didn’t feel I needed any other aids. Until I came across the Edan im60.

I suppose you could say my way of nursing has always been quite ‘old school’, as I come from a time where machinery wasn’t used as routinely as it is now. As soon as I came across the im60, I knew it was a complete game changer. For me, the main benefit of using a multi-parameter such as this is how much It can aid you in your role as a nurse. You can use it to measure heart rate, respiration rate, ECG, blood pressure, spo2 and capnography. You can personalise your im60 experience by choosing which parameters you want to monitor, so you don’t have to have them all on, all of the time. It’s easy to assemble, with all the leads coming packaged separately and named. The leads all fit in the side of the machine, and the ports are also all named so you know exactly where they all go. Once set up, it’s quite self-explanatory and is pretty much ready to use straight away.

Personally, I think the reason the im60 appeals to a nurse like me, is that it gives you a broader, overall view of your patient, and can tell you things you might not have thought to look for before. The gold standard of care we should be providing our patients during anaesthesia includes the use of everything the im60 has to offer. If you are on the fence about whether a multi-parameter is for you, then take the plunge – I promise you will not look back!
