The idea is that the instrument wraps around the root more to get better contact and purchase. Thin cross section at tip to allow good access & positioning on the tooth root. High mechanical advantage (ratio of handle diameter to tip width) Large & shaped American style handle for comfortable palm grip. Coupland 1 & 3 elevators have shorter than standard shank length to allow the index finger to reach the tip (suits smaller hands). All surgical stainless steel construction made in the USA NB the sizes of the winged elevators and so their application DOES NOT correlate to those of regular Couplands Elevator. How to use Use in the same way as regular Couplands elevators. Can be used in conjunction or instead of regular Couplands elevators
